Women in STEM Role Models Needed – Volunteer with FIRST Robotics

Serve as a ‘Women in STEM’ role model while supporting High School STEM activities by volunteering at FIRST Robotics Competitions across the state, supporting over 70 FRC teams from High Schools across Wisconsin! SWE is a Strategic Alliance Partner of FIRST, and Karen Horting (CEO of SWE) is on the FIRST Board of Directors, demonstrating the longstanding commitment of both organizations to increasing access to STEM careers.

Studies show that representation matters, and girls participating on their FIRST robotics teams are positively impacted seeing women in STEM roles supporting their competitions. No prior experience is necessary, and there are a variety of roles available that can match any availability and commitment level. SWE members often make great judges, machine shop assistants, and robot queuers, or if you don’t see a role that jumps out you can always enter “Assign As Needed” and fill in wherever the greatest need is. FIRST Robotics Competitions will take place on the following dates in 2026 across the state:

  • March 6-8, Plymouth, WI
  • March 20-22, Appleton, WI
  • March 27-29, Mukwonago, WI
  • April 2-4, La Crosse, WI
  • April 17-19, Brookfield, WI
